Dr. Gallivan with each visit has always been very thorough and takes the time to explain and answer all my questions with honest unbiased responses.
The staff was professional, enjoyable to talk to and on time.
I have had 2 knee replacements, each with a different outcome.
In my situation it was his opinion that a surgical revision to a previous knee replacement (preformed by a different doctor) might very well not bring substantial improvement.
Therefore not recommending performing surgery if it would not be guaranteed for an improved outcome. I agreed with him.
The knee he did replace is doing very well- I am completely happy with its function.
He is also concerned about the patient sustaining/building good overall health for a long enjoyable life. With this visit he recommended a book (Younger Next Year) showing his strong commitment to the importance of maintaining mobility and overall health.
Glad the SB area has his expertise.

i'm a former knee replacement patient from 5 yrs ago. i called yesterday to talk about my other knee, and was scheduled to come in for x-rays and consult that same day! I'm a fan from before, and continue to be. Dr Gallivan and staff are the best.

My husband & I flew into Santa Barbara from Florida for one of our best friends’ daughter’s wedding at Rincon Beach Club. We arrived Tuesday, 8/27, before the Saturday wedding, 8/31, & I broke my hip on Friday night, 8/30, before the wedding & was rushed to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. On Saturday, my husband & I met with Dr. Gallivan, who came highly recommended & is very well respected, & he operated on me late Saturday afternoon, 8/31. We are so fortunate that Dr Gallivan was on trauma call on Labor Day Weekend. He is very well educated, likeable, and caring with a great bedside manner & dry sense of humor, and he completely explained the surgery to us in layman’s terms. We were so scared, but Dr Gallivan put us totally at ease, because of his trusting demeanor. We immediately knew we were in great hands! We are leaving to go back home to Florida & are anticipating a very timely recuperation.

Dr. Gallivan is a brilliant surgeon. I highly recommend him. He’s funny too. Great bedside manner. I am 76 and had a shoulder replacement surgery. Six months later I have full range of motion and No pain. Even after surgery I had no pain. That’s amazing to be.

Dr. Gallivan is a kind, understanding professional. I highly recommend anyone with orthopedic issues to seek his expertise. All of the staff is welcoming and helpful. Overall, the experience was one of the best medical visits I have ever had.

Intake interview by staff person was cold and impersonal. Dr. Gallivan, gave An explanation for the difficulty I had with my right foot Using terms I As a lay person did not know, Stated I did not have Parkinson’s disease and then, after hearing the drugs, I was taking, stated that I did have Parkinson’s disease, and then, while standing at an unusually close interpersonal distance, stated that he did not recommend action be taken concerning the apparent misalignment of my right foot. Even though the medical outcome might have been the same, the examination was not what I expected.

Dr. Gallivan, took the time to listen to me, do a full examination, review my Xray's and MRI images and provided me with his expert opinion on next steps. While this sounds exactly like what you would expect a Dr. to do, it was NOT my experience with two previous Dr.'s which is how I ended up in Dr. Gallivan's office. He was knowledgeable, direct and clear on what the next steps should be. I am confident that I am in good hands going forward and am grateful to have been recommended to him.
